Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I warmly invite you to join me at Pray 2010, a major gathering on Prayer being held here in Brisbane in July 2010. It is my hope that all who come will be renewed in their relationship with Christ by opening themselves more deeply to the Holy Spirit's presence and action in our lives. Blessed Mary MacKillop urges us to 'believe the whisperings of God within our own hearts' so that we can be faithful to what God asks of us in the circumstances of our daily lives. This attentiveness to the stirrings of God needs to be nurtured, formed and practised through a daily exercise of prayer where we set aside time to seek out the wisdoms, gifts and graces that we need to become Catholics zealous for the Gospel bringing God's love to birth in our world.

Pray 2010 is a marvellous opportunity for us to learn more about the richness and diversity of Prayer in the Catholic tradition, especially our celebration of the Eucharist and the Sacraments. Pray 2010 will immerse us in a rhythm of prayer that:

• gathers us together as a praying communion,
• opens us to God's loving Word and Presence,
• transforms us through our encounters with God's love, grace and healing
• sends us forth in mission to share God's love with others.

Pray 2010 provides a depth and breadth unparallelled because it offers over 40 keynote presentations, more than 270 prayer workshops and numerous opportunities for praying in a rich diversity of styles, drawing upon the wisdom and experience of over 130 international, national and local presenters. Pray 2010 will be the Body of Christ at prayer, sharing our experiences and stories of the living Christ and being inspired by the power of prayer to change lives.

There is a place for everyone - come and play your part. Whether you struggle with how to pray, desire to understand the Eucharist more, want to learn about a new form of prayer or go deeper in a prayer style with which you are familiar, Pray 2010 offers 13 streams of workshops that seek to draw us closer into God's presence.

I urge you to come and be a part of Pray 2010 which will be a powerful encounter with Jesus in prayer, a marvellous celebration of our communion and an impetus for our mission to bring the Gospel of hope to our world.
